immediately creates a somber, sad feeling. Because nature creates most living
plants in green, this color is probably perceived as the most natural. lt is nature's

Many landscape photographers argue that their sole task is to photograph light,
with the landscape almost playing the supporting role by acting as the stage on
which to capture light at its most alluring or emotive. Light, in its myriad forms, has
the power to stir emotions deep within us—we have evolved around the day-
night cycle and we respond to it on an almost instinctive and unconscious level.
Light transforms the landscape, and sets mood, tone and color for our images.

But my love of nature developed before ever set foot in Yosemite. It began as a
child playing in the woods in the semi-rural landscapes of New York state and
Connecticut, and grew further while camping, hiking, and rock-climbing as a
teenager and young adult. The lesson here is to photograph what you're
passionate about, whether that's landscapes or something else. In landscape
photography, there is no substitute for real experience. Nights sleeping
underneath the stars, days ...
